24 hours of Street Photography in ROME

Rome is a city shaped by the legacy of an ancient empire. It is the capital of Italy and the birthplace of chaos and disorder in almost every form imaginable.

I travelled there for work. Rubén Parra, an exceptional wedding photographer whom I worked with during the year I lived in Panama, invited me to photograph a wedding in Rome. Since I was already there, I decided to give myself 24 hours of street photography, with a full immersion in history included.

The city captivated me from the moment I stepped off the train at Roma Termini and saw that hard and vibrant color light.

Listening to Thom Yorke’s entire album ANIMA on repeat while walking through the Vatican turned out to be one of my best ideas. The combination of what I was seeing and what I was hearing made me feel as though I had stepped into a parallel dimension.

Walking through the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Roman Forum is like walking across the history of humanity itself. That experience expanded my understanding of street photography even further, making me more aware of how every image can become part of a much larger historical narrative.

I would love to explore more of Italy through its streets. They are silent witnesses to the thousands of stories that have unfolded around them over the centuries.

The scenes unfolding in the streets felt almost surreal. Rome is a mixture of punk, chaos, history and far too much pasta. You can feel the weight of the past everywhere, while its streets move to a rhythm completely different from Madrid.
